As Beyonce would say, Girls!
It was a special week for girls interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or STEM. Dalton State held its first Girls in STEM camp, led by our very own students and alumni who volunteered to teach young ladies what it is like in the world of STEM.
Dalton State hopes to encourage these young ladies to find their passion in the fields of innovative technology and discovery. Each activity was designed for special emphasis on different areas in STEM.
For five days, these girls learned about their DNA, pollution, and the art behind chemistry.
They dissected cats and sharks, built fires, petted turtles, made compost filters, and discovered the different lives of birds and bugs.

Not only was it a learning experience for the girls, but it was also a learning experience for our volunteers, who took their time in between classes and work to spend precious moments to bond with the future generation.
Tori Roy, alumna of Dalton State and a teacher at the camp, passionately states that "according to the National Science Foundation, women hold only 24 percent of jobs in STEM fields. By introducing young girls to STEM, we are equipping the next generation and boosting their chances of entering a career in science. We want to bring girls in to science and get them excited and interested in careers in our field!"
Dalton State is proud to support our movers and shakers of the future.
